Thompson named new basketball coach

Chris Thompson, former assistant coach at Bossier High School, has been named the new basketball coach at Calvary Baptist Academy, according to Cavalier Athletic Director Johnny Booty.

Thompson was instrumental in leading the Northwestern State University Demons to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA post-season tournament while playing for Mike McConathy.

The new head coach at Calvary graduated from Airline, then went on the Bossier Parish Community College where he earned an associate degree. He then signed with NSU and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2002.

He served as assistant coach under two different head coaches where the Bearkats obtained an impressive 183-52 overall record. During the six years he coached at Bossier, the Kats won the district championship four times.

Thompson dedicates his summers to coaching the Louisiana Select Nike travel team, which consists of some of the top prep players from throughout the state.

He is married to Erin E. Thompson and has two sons, Brayden 7 and Aiden 2.
