 Members of Calvary's Girls' cross country team move through the course. (photo courtesy www.roachx5.com) Calvary's first Cross Country invite turned out to be Mud Fest 2009. The rain and mud were not enough to hold back the 14 high school and junior high schools that participated in the race. The hills and clay mud of Shreveport made Calvary's course one of the most challenging around the state. The CBA boys showed up big again today taking the runner-up trophy only behind 5A power Ruston High school. John Broughton (3rd) and Landon Roach (10th) both finished with top 10 honors. "These two are fighters and very talented. I believe they could contribute to any team in any class in this state, Calvary Coach Jeremy Hebert said." The pack running style of Dakota Rothell (18th), Jason Sibert (21), Eric Austin (23), and Josh Hudson (25) was enough to hold off the other schools in the 80-man race. Calvary's distance girl duo Kelsey Wildes (Freshman) and Ashlen Grantham (only a sixth grader) finished the varsity race taking away t-shirts with a 6th and 7th place finish respectively. "These girls have been working hard in practice every day pushing one another. I am not suprised they are doing as well as they are against other large schools," Hebert said. Avery Watson snagged a top 20 finish on the day finishing as the third CBA member while Nicole Kosin was 27th, Lindsey Kosin 35th, Kaila Wildes 37th, Kaitlynn Ware 39th and Chandler Falcon was 46th rounding out the team in the 60-woman race. The girls team finished fourth overall. Ruston High school took both the male and female varsity champion trophies. Junior High and JV girls did very well today with three finishing in the top 10. Faith Kunkel was 4th, Abby Watkins was 7th, and Hannah Ditt was 10th. Madison Wallace and Lili Reynolds also completed the course. Elementary participant, 5th grader, Jacob Brossette won the elementary 1 mile division.
