The epic story of the season is that the Cavs take home number one while the Lady Cavs finish number two. Not too bad one might think... However. The girls are not prepared to settle for number two at the district championships and they are even more determined not to let the guys out shine them at the state high school championships coming up on Nov. 17. Both of our programs have goals of winning the team District titles and finishing in the top five in the State. (This would be like going to the Semi Finals for all you Football fans out there.) While the boys have stellar new comer John Broughton to lead the charge the girls have the state's fastest sixth grader dominating the varsity races with teammates Kelsey Wildes, just a freshman, and sophomore Nicole Kosin hot on her heels. These girls are very fast. I have started letting them work in some reps with the boys to help their times drop. I would say it is working. The recent second place finishes at races have been without some of our top female runners. If you take the lead three girls and add in Avery Watson and Lindsey Kosin to round out the top five, the girls chances at state are looking pretty bright. Last year the girls finished 13th at the state championships and never took home a team champion or runner-up trophy. The boys finished sixth and took home only two trophies all year. This year the kids have brought home eight trophies and the season isn't even over! It is more than satisfying to see such a change in just a year. I think it is even more gratifying to see a girls program step up and compete beyond district rivals at Calvary. We have been very impressed with both groups and their youthful ability The Cavs will host the District Championships Saturday Nov. 7 on Calvary's campus.
