Calvary's offense did its job Friday night, but it was the Cavalier defense that scored on two odd plays to highlight a 49-0 win over North Caddo in the regular-season finale in Vivian.

The Cavaliers stopped the Rebels on the first possession of the ball game after three plays and partially blocked a North Caddo punt to set up a Nik McCarty pass to Cody Bordelon for the first touchdown of the game with 9:05 left in the opening quarter.

Freshman Weston Steelhammer was the first defender of the night to score a touchdown for Calvary when he batted down a pass from Rebel quarterback Montavious Roberson and came down with the ball in the endzone.

McCarty connected with James Scroggins with 2:23 left on a 44-yard scoring pass to extend the Cavalier lead to 21-0.

Chris Bates got the Cavaliers on the board with 34 seconds left in the first period when he lined up as wide receiver and came back to take a handoff from McCarty from seven yards out.

Head Coach Bo Meeks began calling off the dogs after that and was comfortable going into the locker room following a scoreless second quarter.

However, Calvary wasted no time at all in the second half scoring on their first play from scrimmage when McCarty found a wide-open Bordelon for a 54-yard touchdown strike.

The Calvary defense, good for seven sacks in the first half alone and another in the final half, scored the next Cavalier touchdown when a wall of white jerseys got in the face of Roberson who handed the ball over to Jared Myatt. Myatt lumbered 40 yards, with what was ruled an interception, to give the Cavaliers a 42-0 lead.

Freshman quarterback Cameron Burns came in to relieve mid-way through the third period and finished the game at that position. Burns engineered a 66-yard scoring drive in nine plays dialing his own number on a 3-yard touchdown run.

Luke Nicholls was good on all extra point attempts for the Cavaliers.

North Caddo ended the night with negative 46 yards rushing on 25 attempts. They managed 86 yards through the air in the loss. Three of four Rebel ball carriers ended up with negative yardage with Ryan Nelson the only one on the positive side with 13 yards after seven touches.

Calvary picked off three Rebel passes, one each by Myatt, Steelhammer and Ryan Leone.

McCarty ended his abbreviated performance with 194 yards passing, completing 8-of-12 passes for three touchdowns without an interception. His favorite receiver was Scroggins who brought in three receptions for 85 yards.

Bordelon snagged three as well for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Calvary continued to be snake bit at the running back position as Quinn Johnson, who moved over from the defensive side of the ball for the first time ever to assume the role of ball carrier, left with a sprained ankle and exited the field after the game on crutches.

The Cavaliers will host a playoff game Friday, Nov. 13, against a team to be announced Sunday afternoon. Active military personnel can get into the game without paying using their official military identification card.
